the power of two

It's always nice to have two of anything. In this case a rather tired 80's style heart shaped ring takes on new zip when doubled up on the finger! Or these rings could be worn one on either hand to create a theme. In any even, if you see something out there that's like what you have, don't think oh I already have that, think oh how would that look with what I've got?

round rings

From the humble shell to the magnificent South Seas pearl, round shaped rings are very flattering to the finger. Almost all my favorite rings are round. Maybe I like round rings so much because my fingers are short. People with long psychic fingers can carry off navette shaped rings more beautifully.

my hands today

Today I'm wearing some of the rings from the last post. The two simulated rubies were both gifts, the navette from my friend, Barbara, and the rectangle from my sister, Cary. I am also wearing my signature piece, the signet ring with the stag's head. Colors are blue, green and dark pink.

Stacking rings

I love stacking rings. I've been wearing my rings this way since way back when I was in college in the early 80's. I'm never so satisfied as when I've come up with an original hand of rings. Stacking rings is a big part of that. I like to repeat themes. Above are wihte rings. And above that repeating early simulated ruby.

More on eBay

Also on eBay right now are some noce animal rings. If any of these were in my size I would definitely be bidding. The frog could be really cool with some glued in rhinestone eyes. The eagle has a very cool profile. And the kitty is just plain nice.

On eBay

Here are two bypass rings I'm watching on eBay. I love the contrasting stones. This style of ring is very popular right now although it is actualy very old fashioned. I also love this style done with pearls.

floral pendant

This is one of my favorite summer necklaces. I love these little floral ceramic pieces. My sister, Amy, has a collection of these which I've covered here before. This looks really nice with the tourquoise beads I've been wearing every day this season shown below.

french jet

French jet otherwise known as black glass is lovely stuff. You don't find the old stuff around very much anymore which was why I was so happy to find this at the Salvation Army on Sutro St. in Reno. I'm wearing it today with my tourquoise beads that I posted about a few days ago. The black and tourquoise just feels so right for this summer.

yard sale find

Sometimes you just come across that perfect yard sale find where the necklace is accompanied by a pair of earrings which allows you the materials to fix the pieces missing from the necklace. Such was the case with this old find. Worn with exactly the right blue lace top this would really stand out. It's all about putting the right things together. This could also be layered with other strands of vintage glass pearls.

Summer necklace

Two nice summer necklaces. The top is white enamelware and copper and the above some keishi pearls. Both are light colored and look good with white tops. I like to wear the pearls with my colection of lace tops. The enamel piece is good with Tees and jeans.

My hands today

These are the rings I've been favoring for the last several days. It's been fun to have rings on all ten fingers. I especially like my glittery pointer fingers and my turquoise heart!

stacking rings

These are some nice stacking rings. I especially like the small moonstone in the center of the picture. It stacks well with just about anything. It's nice to have an antique setting or two in a stack as well as a colored stone for variety. At least that's what I like.

Summer statement piece

I was at the Nifty Thrifty in Portola and found this shell pendant. It was pretty tarnished but cleaned up real nicely. I thought it could be my statement piece for this summer. I also got a nice white top to wear with this and I think I will layer this pendant with some fat silver beads.

five new rings

My friend Barbara gave me the gift of five gold rings! I feel like this is the luckiest of gifts because of the Christmas songs I guess. The onyx and diamond was the first ring she ever bought for herself and it was 35 dollars. She found the one next to that. The center ring is Black Hills gold. The next is a ring she was given by her old boss. And finally the one I call big pink and am wearing today she can't remember where she got. What a fabulous gift!

Indian gold

This is a nugget of precontact Indian gold. It was found by my friend Barbara's father back in 1953 in Greenville CA. The hole in the middle is handmade. The piece is stream polished. I am planning to wear it to my son's graduation from college. It is really special to wear a piece with this much history.

pink rings

Two pink and gold rings I found while treasure hunting, one in Richmond, Virginia last year and the other in Chico a couple of months ago. These rings look very good together. I love the rough chunky gold setting of the one on the right.

daisy ring

This is the cutest gold nuggest ring I've ever seen. It belongs to my friend Barbara. It was made locally. I think the design is just cunning, using the gold nugget as the daisy's eye. This looks really nice as a thumb ring. It's just as whimsical as can be!

Faceted purple beads

Here are some lovely faceted purple beads. A nice color for spring. Also a white baroque costume four strand set of pearls. I wear this with a pair of light purple slacks and white top with silver slippers! I really like these many faceted hard plastic beads and buy them whenever I can. They are pretty rare these days and often expensive. But every now and then...you score. They look really good on. Very rich and textured. Trift stores and yard sales are the best places for finding them at a good price. Happy hunting! It's yard sale season.

the blues

The first pic is of some turquoise colored beads that I picked up at the Salvation Army in Chico. They were a real find, and I have worn them almost constantly since I got them. They go with everything and feel like the it color for this spring and summer. The weird blue owl above is a warning not to buy jewelry from Costco! I mean this piece is just odd. I admitted I've worn it a few times but...really do I need this in my life?

over the top glam

Here is a Kate Spade ring I got on sale several months ago. It was really cheap. I thought I'd wear it at Christmas but never seemed to have the rifht occasion. Comming up though is a Margaret Glaspy concert and I think I will wear it then just for the heck of it!

heart and soul

This hand above is an example of mixing the costume wiht the real. I love my big black diamond but think it looks great with the two small stone rings beside it. I like the nautilaus shell design very muh and think it is a lot of design for a piece of "junk" and the other ring reminds me of Georgian paste.

Here I made a trip out to the Nifty Thrifty in Portola and came away with these to sterling pendants. They make me think of the heart and soul. The soul being a solid dependable four cornered thing. I added the heart to my heart necklace but have gotten a lot of use out of the soul. It goes with everything.
