High end jewelry designers have always been fascinated by insects and spiders and such. I think it is because they are Nature's little jewels. I mean an ordinary house fly has red eyes that suggest rubies and a black and white body that suggests enamel work. And the patterns and textures on insects and other crawling beings are almost unlimited.
